Pointer-and-shooter

Date October 11, 2007

Hello and welcome to my photoblog. I’m not a photographer but I carry a camera almost everywhere I go.

You can say I’m a hobbyist. I really like to take photos and when I do, I’d always try take them with composition, balance, shadows and lights, colours and contrast, in mind.

Digital dream

I lament the fact that I haven’t had good photographic equipment. Ideally, I need a DSLR, a wide-angle lens, a standard zoom lens, a telephoto lens, 2x tele-converter, a macro lens, a fish-eye lens (optional) and a good flash gun.

But my goodness! They are expensive. But I still dream of owning all those in the future. It’s good to have a dream. No. Really. It’s good. It makes you alive and chasing it enriches your soul.

Recently I came across an article titled “100 Things I’ve Learned About Photography” and one of the lessons — Number 39 in the list — is that “The best equipment is that what you have now”.

So, yeah. I don’t mind telling you that all I’ve got is an old point-and-shoot camera, the Canon PowerShot G6 which I bought in 2004. I suspect it would die on me any day now.

Macro shots

I’m not going to pretend I can take good panoramic pictures with this type of camera; nor do I have the ability to shoot faraway subjects as though they are under my nose.

I’ve decided therefore to concentrate on what this camera can do best — taking macro pictures, although that does not mean I won’t be posting any other pictures.

I shall also be discussing about point-and-shoot camera as well when a new model is announced. Since I don’t own a DSLR at the moment, except for a film SLR camera, I won’t discussing anything about that types of camera.

So enjoy looking a little bit closer at things and I thank you for coming by.

All the pictures here are either scale down versions of their originals or have been cropped to “tighten” them a bit. They are all available in larger resolutions — in 3702 x 2304 for those taken with the macro setting on, and 2048 x 1536 with super macro on.
