[UPDATE JAN 6, 2009: I've had the camera since Dec 22, 2008 and posted a review title, "Canon PowerShot SX1 IS User Review“)
I can now understand the frustration among some consumers in North America when told that the Canon PowerShot SX1 IS would not be sold there.

Here in Malaysia, I’ve been waiting since more than a week ago for the camera and even though it is already available in the region, none of the stores here — not even Canon dealers themselves — have the camera on sale.
I am really looking forward to buying the camera so that I can take it to Borneo because I have a thousand and one photos to take there.
But what the heck, my flight to Borneo is on Monday and at the rate things are going, there is no way I can get hold of the camera by then.
No, not the SX10 IS
Today I called up Canon and asked whether the camera was already available in Kuala Lumpur and the girl at the end of the line told me it was. Call our dealers, here are the numbers, she said.
I called one of the dealers and the guy at the end of the line asked me, “You mean the SX10 IS?”
I said, “No, the camera I am looking for is Canon PowerShot S-X-1-IS.” He said he was sorry but the camera wasn’t available yet.
Darn! The single greatest motivation for me to buy camera is the prospect of using it for a photohunt in North Borneo.
Now I may have to forget the whole idea of buying the camera if it is still not available by Sunday.
