Ladybug Macro

LadybugI wonder why ladybugs are called ladybugs. I wonder too whether there are bugs that can be called gentlemanbugs. Having said that, there are many ways to shoot a bug. Here in this picture I choose to get as close as possible to the tiny creature with only about 3cm separating the lens and the bug.

However, it is also a good idea to step a little back and frame the picture from, say, 15cm away.

For instance, take a look at this photo of a ladybug by National Geographic. It is well-taken, and well-composed. Not surprising though; it is afterall a National Geographic picture; and it is definitely not taken with a compact.
