This list is backdated. You may consider for – (i) Fujifilm HS10 (30X ) (ii) Nikon P100 (iii) Canon SX20 IS (iv) Panasonic FZ35.

I think, Fujifilm HS10 is the winner.

I think the list is not proper though. I feel panasonic fz28 is way better than all the other cameras. It’s closet competition is canon sx10. Both are evenly matched.
And now both of them have got even better. Canon has brought sx20 and Panasonic has got the upgrade, DMC fz35/37. You should try both of them before buying.

Hi Arvin, thank you for the comment. I will try to update this entry in the sometime this month.

Also, I don’t have the experience handling the canon Sx20 , nikon cool pix90, or panasonic Fz 35, maybe others who have the experience can help you find the answer.

I’ll be posting a side-by-side spec comparison of these 3 cameras, which I shall do sometime next week.

The race for long zoom camera has somewhat slowed down at the moment but you can be sure several new models will be release in the run up to PMA 2010 from Feb 19, 2010. So, if you can wait until then…

As for high ISO performance in long zoom camera segment (15x optical – 26 optical zoom), it seems none is yet able to break the barrier of a clean image at iso 800 or even at ISO 400.

Some medium telephoto compacts (10x optical to 12 optical) are much more successful in high ISO area.

can any one tell me teh best in this category

canon Sx20 , nikon cool pix90,
panasonic Fz 35 .. is the one that i have shortlisted..
my budget is 400$
i would liketo have teh best in performance and quality in this superzoom category
i would like to know is there any other good cameras which i can go for..
is there any good models coming in another 2-3 months so that i can wait for that…
need good video options , image stabilisation , lower distortion, iso capabilitues.. etc..

please suggest..
i find all reviews a bit older…..

manoj, I guess noise problem is prevalent in all super zoom point and shoot cameras. I am using the SX1 IS and I always shoot at base ISO to prevent the noise from creeping in

using Olympus SP 590UZ since 3 months and i loved the camera. though thr is some noise in high ISO, it is worth a buy.
