Canon EOS 500D
Two “super” entry level DSLR cameras, the Canon EOS 500D and Nikon D5000, entered the Malaysian market last week, creating a wave of excitement among consumers. Priced at RM3,663 and RM3,288 respectively, both came equipped with 18-55 kit lens. Nikon D5000′s body-only price is RM2,888 (RM1.00 = USD0.284)
These prices are not expensive but they are not cheap either. But the bottomline is, they are affordable, especially Nikon’s body-only price. I wonder if Tamron’s new AF18-270mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) lens is compatible with Nikon D5000 and Canon EOS 500D.
Nikon D5000
Here is a comparison chart between Canon EOS D500 and Nikon D5000 but if you want to see how the two cameras compare in terms of image quality, Digital Camera Resource has a teaser for you.
It’s a comparison shot between Canon EOS 500D, Nikon D5000 and Olympus E-620.
Canon EOS 500D has better image quality? Although the comparison shots are too few to to properly judge the two cameras, looking at them, I could not help but see cleaner and sharper images from the EOS 500D.
In the meantime, you can watch a kick-boxing session between the Nikon 5000D and Canon EOS 500D over at Engadget.
The other camera I am curious about is the Panasonic DMC GH1, which receives a rave review from David Pogue, a New York Times tech columnist. But the price tag hurts — USD$1,500 or about RM5,340!
