It has been more than a year since Sony last released its series of consumer-level DSLR cameras — the Aplha A200, A300 and A350.
Except for the release of its high end Alpha A900 in September 2008, none is heard of Sony on the DSLR front, at least not officially.
At the rate Sony was releasing its DSLR cameras in January last year — introducing three DSLR camera models in just under a month — things are disturbingly quiet that I cannot help but hear the silence.
Now, rumours are afloat that Sony will release its new DSLR this month, possibly up to three models comprising entry level and mid range cameras.
Photoclub Alpha has pictures of the rumoured new Sony that includes A230, A330 and A380.
I particularly like the name A380 as it is also the name of the largest passenger aircraft, the A380.
No details yet available on the three cameras but going by the trend, Sony could include HD video capabilities with decent frame rate. I expect no less than 30fps from Sony, if at all it would include the feature. One site, however, quoted rumours that Sony may not jump into the HD video bandwagon yet.
I wish Sony could incorporate a zoom lens that auto focuses like the one on the Panasonic DMC GH1, and the inclusion of the “killer technology”, the pan-and-stitch feature that has made its compact camera, the HX1, stands a cut above the competition.
It would also be good if Sony can include the ability to superimpose image, a feature also available in the HX1.
In short, this is my wish list for the new Sony DSLR cameras, particularly the A380: 15 megapixels, 1080p HD video at 30fps, at least 4fps continuous shot, vari-angle LCD screen, pan-and-stitch technology, the ability to superimpose images, lens auto focuses when shooting video, stereo sound…
