Samsung today announced at the PMA 2010 what was rumoured to be the “LX3 killer” — a phrase first used by “Redcrow” – and it may come close to doing so but for the lack of HD video.

The EX1 is indeed a high end compact with enticing features such as a fast f/1.8 – f/2.4 Schneider KREUZNACH lens, tilt-and-swivelling AMOLED screen (the french calls the swivelling LCD screen “orientable“) and a front control wheel.

Below is a brief comparison table between the EX1 and LX3. The chart will be updated to cover other aspects such as image sizes, continuous shooting, focus modes, digital zoom and so on when more details on the EX1 are available.

Great solid feel camera. Loved the filter including fish eye.

Great macro shots. I have sample images on my post:

If you look around there should be one with a fish eye filter. These are unedited from the camera.

Sylvia, you are absolutely right. And for close ups it should offer a magnifying of the life view for an exact manual focusing. (Even the larger NH10 hasn’t).

Don’t we all want to know the close focus range? If it doesn’t match the LX3, no deal.

That tilt-and-swivel LCD screen is a great plus when taking macros – Without that feature I would prefer the LX3 (better lens). The large aperture together with a zoom a little longer (around 100mm) would be helpful for portraits too.

    table has an error
both cameras have a built in flash
also in the beginning you mention a f/1.4
while its f/1.8 as mentioned in the table
