Canon’s newest bright lens compact, the SD4000 IS, also known as Digital IXUS 300 HS in some markets, including in Singapore and Malaysia, is getting a wave of reviews despite its “young” age — it was announced only slightly more than a month ago on May 11. On the contrary, the much anticipated Samsung EX1 is still not available in many markets, including in Malaysia and Singapore, although the official announcement was made way back in February.

It seems to me that the EX1, which has a faster lens of F1.8, is giving its competitors all the time in the world to get their act together and enter the market ahead of itself to fill the aperture gap.

The SD4000 is an interesting little camera because of its fast lens — at f2.0 at its maximum — bringing back some of the excitement when Canon first launched the S90, which also spots a f2.0 lens.

Yesterday, CNet reviewed the SD4000 IS and praised its image quality. ” A day before, PC Magazine also reviewed the camera and noted how the SD4000 IS excelled in low-light shooting.
