Length Doesn’t Matter: DPReview Picks The Best Superzoom Cameras

When Canon first announced its twin 20x optical zoom cameras, the SX1 IS and SX10 IS, not a day passed without me thinking about them in one way or another. I decided then that I must buy the SX1 IS despite the price tag. And man, how I rushed to the camera shop as soon as the camera was available there!

Then, months later I regretted the purchase because the 20x optical zoom reach of the SX1 IS was soon out-lengthed by other cameras offering 24x or 26x zoom.

Nowadays, of course, I can say I’ve grown wiser and longer zoom reach does mean better and this is true in the case of compact camera lenses as much as it is in the case of DSLR lenses.

But don’t just take my word for it. Heads over to DPReview, which has just posted a superzoom shoot-out featuring Canon Powershot SX20 IS, Casio EX-FH25, Fujifilm FinePix HS10, Fujifilm FinePix S2500HD, Kodak Z981, Nikon Coolpix P100, Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38, Pentax X90 and Samsung WB5000.

I wonder why Olympus SP800UZ is not in the list though. Check out the shoot-out, here.
