Redefining photography. “Redefinition of photography may become necessary,” says Nikon President Makoto Kimura in an interview with Pen News Weekly [via Amateur Photographer] in what must have been the most memorable quote from Nikon this year.
Just like Pentax’s “distinct EVIL” statement which leaves a profound effect on Pentax fans, the “redefining photography” remark by the Nikon president has left Nikon fans holding their breath and having their antennas drawn for any signs of things to come, come Photokina 2010 in September.

If you are already known for saying things of substance but have been quiet for a protracted period, people are expecting a bang when you do finally open your mouth. And Nikon, man… Nikon has been quiet since February; so naturally, people are expecting a blast come Photokina in Cologne, Germany.
So, what is cooking at Nikon’s kitchen of late? First, we have heard of an upgrade of its sub-entry level DSLR, the D3000. The new camera, to be named Nikon D3100, according to the rumours, is slotted for announcement this month, on Aug 19.
Nikon is also upgrading its premium compact, the P6000, making it P7000, with a large 1.7-inch sensor.
Despite the rumour mill saying the camera is targeted to compete with Canon G11, Nikon is said to positioning it as a bridge between the compact camera segment, and its entry level DSLR.
Another eagerly awaited news will be the D90 replacement and the kind of EVIL camera Nikon is going to announce. Thom Hogan is speculating an update of the Nikon D3s.
