The newly-announced Canon PowerShot S95 is one of few compact cameras which give macro photography fans something to cheer. In S95, the special feature comes in the form of Canon’s Hybrid IS which compensates various types of camera shakes. The bright f2.0 lens on the S95 is the first Canon compact camera lens to feature the technology. The S95 lens is the second only Canon lens with the technology, the first being the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens.

Canon says the Hybrid IS “counteracts camera shake, reducing blur and enabling users to capture shots in darker conditions and shoot at a shutter speed approximately 4-stops slower than would otherwise be necessary to achieve a blur-free shot.”
“Hybrid IS also prevents image blur during close-up shooting, counteracting angular and shift shake that becomes more pronounced during macro photography.”
Image stabilisation aside, the S95 strengthens Canon “S” line of camera, making it, arguably the best pocketable compact cameras. The large 1/1.7-inch sensor, bright lens, RAW capture, multi aspect ratio shooting, makes the S95 a compelling package.
