Nikon Preparing Camera For “New Market”

Nikon President Makoto Kimura has been keeping Nikon fans in high anticipation this year, first by declaring in July that a “Redefinition of photography may become necessary.” Then on Thursday, Reuters quoted him as saying that Nikon Corp was readying a camera model which it hoped would create a new market.

What could the new camera be? Is the new camera model the harbinger of the photographic redefinition Nikon is seeking?

When Nikon announced the D3100 and four lenses last month, many Nikon fans felt the best was still to come and that the announcement that day did not really fit the “photographic redefinition” profile despite the D3100 being the first DSLR to feature a full-time AF in Live View.

Kimura told Reuters, “We want to propose another type of photography,” saying, “I don’t think there is any need to limit it to two categories. We want to create a new market.” [Reuters, via Malaysian Insider]
