Dandelion Macro Photography

Date July 17, 2008

Dandelions are heaven sent for macro photography. They are soft but at the same time appear very sharp in photographs.

Photographers have been taking photos of dandelions with varying degree of success. The photo here, I believe, is very successfully taken.

Dandelion

This dandelion macro photo is contributed by Aditi Kidambi who has also taken some very delicious macro photographs which you can see on her Flickr page. Thanks Aditi for the superb dandelion.

By the way, the English name dandelion is a corruption of the French dent de lion meaning lion’s tooth, referring to the coarsely-toothed leaves.

Ordinary Orchids

Date June 11, 2008

Hmm… I wonder how real photographers will approach these orchids. From which angle they will take their shots and which part of the orchids will be made the central piece of the frame?

What Plant Is This?

Date June 9, 2008

Nature photographers, I believe, should know a thing or two about nature. The more they know about flora and fauna species, the better. It’s like taking the photograph of a person and be able to tell his or her name.

I don’t know what type of plant this is but here it is anyway.

Little Sunflower

Date June 7, 2008

I like taking pictures of flower. Over the years I’ve taken thousands of flower photos and probably thousands more in the future.

Little Sunflower Species

Just when I thought I’ve seen all flower shots, I came across this entry over at Digital Photography School. It’s aptly titled “41 Delicious Flower Photographs”. Darn! How I hate them for the superb shots!

I will definitely remember most of the shots there the next time I take my camera to shoot flowers even though, with my point-and-shoot camera, there is no way I can shoot half as good as they.

You can tell the weather just by looking at the photographs under which they are taken.

Dragon Fly Macro, My 100th Post

Date June 1, 2008

This is my 100th post since I started this blog on October 11, 2007. It has been a journey punctuated by rapid burst of entries and several long intervals in between.

This photo of a dragon fly was taken today at the Butterfly Park in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Heeding my own advice on taking photos, I’ve taken dozens of shots but alas, the weather was not helpful. The sky was overcast and the rain came soon enough.

To commemorate my 100th entry, I’m posting here all the usable shots out of several dozens I’ve taken at the park before the rain came.

Diagonal

Date November 22, 2007

The past week and the days prior to that have been a rather hectic period for me, hence the lack of update in this blog. Work was like mad and even after the madness was over, I still need to run various other errands in relation to my transfer back to Kuala Lumpur.

Today is my last day in Singapore. Tomorrow, I shall be driving north to the Malaysian capital city to report for duty.

I am looking forward to settling down in my new place of living — I still have not figured out where I would rent a house — and to resume blogging, say in two weeks’ time.

In the meantime, rock on baby!

Red

Date November 12, 2007

[Updated with write-up] This is one of the pictures I took on the spur of the moment. I was jaywalking across Orchard Road in Singapore the other day when I noticed red flowers were blooming by the road side. They looked so fresh that I just felt I need to take a quick shot.

People were looking, so I didn’t really get to shoot as much as I want. That is always the problem with doing photography other than the “normal” kind of picture takings. People would look!
