It is now possible, thanks to GigaPan’s Time Machine. Not only that, you can also reverse and fast-forward the process to see the details changing over time.

To demonstrate how the tool works, watch the two video below or go straight to main page of the GigaPan Time Machine and be amazed at it is now possible to see a picture from an entirely new perspective.

First thing first, let me say it from the outset that only a Lomo camera can do a perfect lomography, whatever perfect means.

Having said that, there are numerous ways to imitate the lomo effect either using special conversion lens like Diana’s or simply Photoshop the image.

Or, better still, if you are a Pentax K-7 owner, you can attempt to shoot lomo by turning on the in-camera digital filters and tweaking them further to achieve lomo look-alike pictures. The result may not be as random and unpredictable as shooting with a dedicated lomo camera, but it is worth the effort.

All the shots here are from my very first experiment trying to mimic the photographic chaos that only lomo cameras seems to be able to create.

Not quite close to the real thing but it is promising. With more practise and trial and error, I should be able to perfect the way the camera mimic lomography.

This should serve as a short-term solution to my crave for lomography until such time that I purchase one of those Lomo cameras, which some say are cheap but only if you buy them in Russia.

Lawmakers in France are french-kissing goodbye digital enhancement of models in fashion photography, saying these photographs could pose health concerns including eating disorders.

Some 50 parliamentarians, led by Valerie Boyer, of President Nicolas Sarkozy’s UMP party, have now proposed a law that requires such photographs to carry a warning, like those printed on cigarette packets.

They proposed the warning to be worded something like “digitally enhanced to modify a person’s body image” or “photograph retouched to modify the physical appearance of a person.”

“Such images can lead people to believe in a reality that often does not exist,” Boyer said. Non-compliance could result in fines of up to 37,500 euros (US$55,000).

Imagine having this picture of super model Lara Stone carry the warning

There was no mention of the font size required to print the health warning; so fashion magazines and TV commercials could probably get away with printing the warning in 10-point Bickham Script Pro Regular.

Sixty-four years ago today, at approximately 8.15am, the uranium bomb called “Little Boy” was dropped on Hiroshima, a city on the southern part of Japan. Needless to say, the city was reduced to ashes.

Today, Hiroshima has recovered from the devastation. No physical scars are seen, not even at the ground zero.

If not for the existence of photographic evidence, 64 years from now, this “historic” milestone in the science of destruction would have been reduced to just myths and legends.

The picture above is a screen capture from Google Earth. For more pictures of the bombing, check the latest posting at The Big Picture.
